Why our Kansa?

  • Certified 78:22 composition Every piece is 78% copper and 22% tin, the traditional bell-metal ratio used by master Kansaris. The composition is verified by an NABL-accredited lab. Much of the Kansa sold in the market is diluted with zinc, lead or aluminium to cut costs. Ours never is.
  • The only Kansa in India that is NABL & RoHS certified It is tested for purity in an NABL-accredited lab and certified to RoHS standards for hazardous substances. It is 100% lead-free and safe for everyday eating and cooking.
  • 5-year breakage guarantee The right alloy, cast and finished the right way, makes Kansa that lasts. We're confident enough in how it is made to guarantee it against breakage for 5 years.
  • Handcrafted by master Kansaris Each piece is cast, beaten and polished by hand by master Kansaris in Ahmedabad, using techniques passed down through generations.

How to maintain?

Everyday wash

  • Wash by hand with warm water and a mild dish soap soon after use.
  • Wipe dry right away with a soft cotton cloth. Don't leave it to air-dry, because water spots dull the shine.

Bring back the shine

  • Kansa naturally darkens with use. This patina is a sign of real bronze, not a defect.
  • To restore the golden glow, rub with lemon and salt, or a paste of tamarind or Pitambari, then rinse and dry.

Avoid

  • Steel wool, metal scrubbers and harsh abrasive powders, which scratch the surface.
  • Leaving sour or acidic food (tamarind, tomato, curd, pickle) in it for long hours.
  • Dropping it on hard floors. Kansa is a hard alloy, so handle it with care.

Storage

  • Store dry. When stacking, place a soft cloth between pieces.

SHIPPING & RETURNS

Each Kansa piece is thoughtfully created by skilled rural artisans, using techniques passed down through generations.

Minor variations in shape, texture, or finish—including spots or sharp edges—are natural signs of true craftsmanship, not flaws. These can be easily cleaned with a quick wash and gentle scrub using a scotch brite.

Our bronze products may also develop a patina over time—a natural process that can be reversed with simple cleaning methods using lime, salt, vinegar, or tamarind.

We offer nationwide shipping services across India. Our standard delivery timeframe is 3-6 working days from the date of dispatch.

We accept returns for products only in cases where there is something wrong with the product such as missing product, product other than what was ordered and broken product. We have an open box policy regarding such incidents. Share us a video whilst opening the box within 24 hours of receiving such a package. Read our Return Policy here

The science of real Kansa

Why 78:22?

Kansa is not just any bronze. It is defined by how much tin is in it. Every CarryHome piece is 78% copper and 22% tin, the classic bell-metal ratio.

True bell-metal Kansa

Metallurgists define Kansa as high-tin bronze, with more than 20% tin. At 22%, ours sits right in that range.

The traditional Kansari ratio

Master Kansaris have worked with about 21–22% tin for centuries. One documented recipe is 270 g of tin to every 1 kg of copper.

It takes mastery to make

Bell metal can only be worked within a narrow window of heat. It is then quenched and tempered to make it tough.

Kansa thali set
Is this real Kansa?

Yes. Every CarryHome piece is pure Kansa, 78% copper and 22% tin, with nothing else mixed in. The composition is tested in an NABL-accredited lab.

Is it safe to eat and drink from?

Yes. Our Kansa is 100% lead-free and lab-tested.

Why 78:22?

78:22 is the classic bell-metal ratio. Metallurgists define Kansa as high-tin bronze, with more than 20% tin. At 22% tin, ours sits right in that range, the same ratio master Kansaris have worked with for centuries.

How is 78:22 different from 80:20?

80:20 has a little less tin and sits right on the line between medium bronze and Kansa. The extra tin in 78:22 makes it harder and more scratch-resistant, gives it a brighter golden colour and a clearer ring when tapped.

How can I check that it is real?

Tap it gently with a spoon: real bell-metal Kansa rings clear and long, while mixed metals sound dull. A magnet won't stick to it. And our lab report confirms the composition.

How long will it last?

With normal care, for many years. Hidden air bubbles are what make bronze crack, so we remove them from every piece and check each one by hand. That is why every CarryHome Kansa piece comes with a 5-year breakage guarantee.

What if it cracks or breaks?

If it cracks or breaks in normal household use within 5 years of delivery, write to us with your order number and a photo of the piece.

Why does it turn dark?

That is patina, the natural reaction of copper with air and moisture. It is a sign of real bronze, not a defect. Rub with lemon and salt, tamarind or Pitambari to bring the golden shine back.

Can I put it in the dishwasher or microwave?

Never in the microwave, as it is metal. We recommend washing by hand rather than in a dishwasher, because harsh detergents dull the finish. Wash with mild soap and wipe dry right away.

Can I cook in it? Does it work on induction?

Kansa is not magnetic, so it won't work on induction. Use it on a gas stove.

Why does each piece look slightly different?

Every piece is cast, beaten and polished by hand by master Kansaris in Ahmedabad. Small variations in texture, tone and weight are a sign of handwork, not a flaw.
