The science of real Kansa
Why 78:22?
Kansa is not just any bronze. It is defined by how much tin is in it. Every CarryHome piece is 78% copper and 22% tin, the classic bell-metal ratio.

Tin content
True bell-metal Kansa
Metallurgists define Kansa as high-tin bronze, with more than 20% tin. At 22%, ours sits right in that range.
The traditional Kansari ratio
Master Kansaris have worked with about 21–22% tin for centuries. One documented recipe is 270 g of tin to every 1 kg of copper.
It takes mastery to make
Bell metal can only be worked within a narrow window of heat. It is then quenched and tempered to make it tough.

Why we can promise 5 years. A guarantee this long is rare in Kansa, because bronze with hidden air pockets can crack without warning. We remove those air bubbles from every utensil and check each piece by hand. That is why we're confident enough to stand behind it for 5 years.

Your Questions, Answered
Still curious? Message us on WhatsApp and we'll help you choose.
Is this real Kansa?
Yes. Every CarryHome piece is pure Kansa, 78% copper and 22% tin, with nothing else mixed in. The composition is tested in an NABL-accredited lab.
Is it safe to eat and drink from?
Yes. Our Kansa is 100% lead-free and lab-tested.
Why 78:22?
78:22 is the classic bell-metal ratio. Metallurgists define Kansa as high-tin bronze, with more than 20% tin. At 22% tin, ours sits right in that range, the same ratio master Kansaris have worked with for centuries.
How is 78:22 different from 80:20?
80:20 has a little less tin and sits right on the line between medium bronze and Kansa. The extra tin in 78:22 makes it harder and more scratch-resistant, gives it a brighter golden colour and a clearer ring when tapped.
How can I check that it is real?
Tap it gently with a spoon: real bell-metal Kansa rings clear and long, while mixed metals sound dull. A magnet won't stick to it. And our lab report confirms the composition.
How long will it last?
With normal care, for many years. Hidden air bubbles are what make bronze crack, so we remove them from every piece and check each one by hand. That is why every CarryHome Kansa piece comes with a 5-year breakage guarantee.
What if it cracks or breaks?
If it cracks or breaks in normal household use within 5 years of delivery, write to us with your order number and a photo of the piece.
Why does it turn dark?
That is patina, the natural reaction of copper with air and moisture. It is a sign of real bronze, not a defect. Rub with lemon and salt, tamarind or Pitambari to bring the golden shine back.
Can I put it in the dishwasher or microwave?
Never in the microwave, as it is metal. We recommend washing by hand rather than in a dishwasher, because harsh detergents dull the finish. Wash with mild soap and wipe dry right away.
Can I cook in it? Does it work on induction?
Kansa is not magnetic, so it won't work on induction. Use it on a gas stove.
Why does each piece look slightly different?
Every piece is cast, beaten and polished by hand by master Kansaris in Ahmedabad. Small variations in texture, tone and weight are a sign of handwork, not a flaw.
