Yes. Ghee and oil are not acidic, so a Kansa loti is well suited to keeping them for daily cooking and pooja. Keep the lid on and wipe the rim clean after use.
Yes. Kansa (bronze) has been used for generations for pooja vessels, diyas, lotas and ghantis, and bronze bells are known for their clear, long-lasting ring.
Rinse in warm water after each use and wipe dry with a soft cloth; don't air dry. For deeper cleaning, use tamarind pulp (imli), a lemon-and-salt scrub or a bronze-cleaning powder like Pitambari. Kansa is not dishwasher or microwave safe.
You can spot genuine kansa in just a few steps:
- A small magnet won’t stick to real kansa, but will to plated or mixed-metal pieces.
- Tap it gently—authentic kansa rings with a clear, bell-like tone, while imitations sound dull.
- Real kansa develops a natural brownish patina over time and feels noticeably heavier than hollow or lighter alloys.
It's better to do tinning or kalai first to cook anything citric in nature
